Area Agency on Aging

 

 

The Area Agency on Aging serves as the vehicle through which federal, state and local resources for older persons, age 60 and older, in the designated planning service area of Adair, Cherokee, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okmulgee, Sequoyah, and Wagoner counties can be utilized.  These funds are distributed under various titles of the Older Americans Act of 1965.

 

The EODD Area Agency on Aging is the funding agency for Legal Services, MCCAP Nutrition and SAC Nutrition.      

 

As the cost of living increases, unfortunately, so does the cost to provide meals.  Donations are accepted to help with meal services.  Please contact Bill Waggoner at (918) 682-7891 for more information.

                                                                                                                                                           

Dietitian's Corner

 

 

Nutrition and Supportive Services

Hot noon meals are served 5 days per week to over 3,200 older persons a day at 29 Title III Senior Nutrition Sites.  The meals which provide 1/3 of the Recommended Daily Allowance of nutrients for older persons are served at Congregate Meal Sites or are Home Delivered Meals.  Activities and health screenings are available at each center.  Click on the link above to find a senior center near you.

 

 

Transportation

Buses and vans provide transportation for older persons to nutrition sites, senior centers, doctors, drug stores, banks, grocery stores, and other important locations to provide for more independent living for area Seniors.  Transportation is not available in all areas.  For information in Adair, Cherokee and Sequoyah Counties, please call (918) 775-7708. Information & Assistance

Information & Assistance is provided on a variety of issues and services.  Linage and referrals are made as needed.  Outreach workers & Case Management contact older persons to provide information on services available and to assess individuals needs.

 

 

Legal

Legal Assistance is provided by Legal Services of OK.  This service provides legal advise, counseling and representation by an attorney or other person acting under the supervision of an attorney.  If you are needing more information about  wills, debt collection, social security, veteran’s benefits, power of attorney or more, please call  (918)683-5681 or (918)696-2331.

 

 

Caregivers

Services are provided to Caregivers to help meet the following needs:  Respite, Assistance with Access to Services, Information About Services, Counseling, Support Groups and Training for Caregiver, and Supplemental Services as possible.

 

Donations are needed to help with many very important unfunded services for Seniors, including:  eye glasses, hearing aids, dentures, home repairs, equipment, prescriptions, etc. 

 

 

Long Term Care Ombudsman

Ombudsman Supervisors monitor and advocate for Quality of Care and Quality of Life of seniors living in Long-Term Care Nursing Homes, Residential Care and Assisted Living Facilities.  Ombudsman Supervisors and Ombudsman Volunteers attempt to resolve complaints from residents, family and friends by exploring problems and recommending corrective action.  Volunteers are trained and certified to spend 2 hours per week in their facility.

 

 

ADvantage Case Management

The Area Agency on Aging provides this service through the Long Term Care Authority of Tulsa.  If eligible, services include assistance with purchasing medications, personal care, and homemaking chores.  The individual must be nursing home level of care and make no more than $1,467 monthly to qualify for the program.
